Free Training for iPhone Owners

April 1, 2019 - If you own a Smartphone and want to learn how it can be more useful to you, California Phones is offering free training to iPhone owners from 10:00 A.M. to 12:00 noon at the Oakhurst Branch Library on Saturday, April 13, 2019. The training will be held in the library’s Community Room at 49044 Civic Circle Dr., Oakhurst.

Robert “Skippy” Sumner, an outreach specialist for the Deaf & Disabled Telecommunications Program of the California Telephone Access Program, said the training is also recommended for Smartphone users who have difficulty hearing or seeing on their iPhones. Space in the class is limited to 10 and reservations are required by calling the library at (559) 683-4838.

According to Sumner, the training in Oakhurst will be conducted by Lydia Santillan with assistance from Carmen Garcia, both trainers for the CTAP. Registrants are required to bring their own devices.

At the training session, Sumner said Smartphone owners will learn how to make their iPhones louder and easier to hear, send text messages, turn their iPhone into a magnifier, connect Bluetooth devices and operate the basic functions of an iPhone.

“There is so much more to learn,” said Sumner, adding that the training is “for anyone who has an iPhone and doesn’t know how to use it.”

Sumner also suggested that people interested in the training should contact his office prior to the event to see if their Smartphone model is supported. His phone number in Fresno is (559) 478-2755. The TTY (teletypewriter) number is (559) 449-1758.

The free event is sponsored by the Friends of the Oakhurst Branch Library. For more information, or to register for the class, call (559) 683- 4838 or visit www.oakhurstfobl.com.
