April 1, 2019 - Sierra Foothill Charter School is holding a Chili Cook Off and Dessert Auction at The Alley in downtown Mariposa on Saturday, April 6, from 12:00 noon until 3:00 P.M. This family-friendly event is open to the public. In addition to chili tasting and dessert bidding, there will be live music by The Jespersons to enjoy.
SFCS 5687A full house in The Alley's courtyard and on the upper deck enjoyed last year's dessert auction led by auctioneer Chris Phillips with the help of caller Joe Williams and Jennifer Rider keeping track of desserts and winning bid amounts. There will be a wide variety of desserts to bid on at the April 6 event with all proceeds benefiting the students and programs at Sierra Foothill Charter School.

Local eateries including June Bug Cafe, The Alley, Savourys, 1850 Restaurant + Brewing, Little Oven Pizza, Gold Coin Sports Grill & Bar, BB's Catering, and Miner's Inn Restaurant will all be competing for the votes of those in attendance to determine the winner of the title, “Best Chili!”

Tastings are $10 for adults, $5 for seniors and children 12 and under. The price includes chili samples from all contestants.

After tasting a variety of chilis and enjoying live music, be ready to bid on some delicious desserts! The Dessert Auction will start at 2:00 P.M.
SFCS 5603Local group The Jespersons entertained event goers last year while they were tasting chili. They will be playing for attendees again this year.

If you would like to contribute to the dessert auction, please contact Thad Raczkowski at thadraczkowski@gmail.com or bring one with you to the event.

“Some families are known for bringing certain desserts,” says committee member Amber Edwards. “Other families want to be sure to bid high enough to win them!”

“There’s always plenty of enticing desserts to bid on,” says committee member Thad Raczkowski. In previous years, desserts have sold from $20 to last year’s winning bid of $1,000 for a banana cake.

“Who can resist these children when they smile sweetly and say, “Wouldn’t you like to bid on this special dessert I made,” says Raczkowski. “It is really difficult to refuse. The children are a big part of what make this such a successful fundraiser for us.”
SFCS 5677Dessert auction helper Lillan Engstrom holds a giant bag of chocolate chip cookies that were up for bid at last year's Chili Cook Off and Dessert Auction. There will be a wide variety of desserts to bid on at the April 6 event with all proceeds benefiting the students and programs at Sierra Foothill Charter School.

The auction will continue until all the desserts are gone.

The coming together of community is the other factor that makes this such a successful event. All are invited. This is a great opportunity for community members to say hello to friends and neighbors, have a delicious meal, purchase fantastic desserts, listen to wonderful music, and support a good cause all at the same time. All profits will be used to support students and programs at Sierra Foothill Charter School.

“This is our biggest fundraiser of the year,” said Principal/Superintendent Mindy Bolar. “We appreciate everyone’s support.”
