April 2, 2019 - During the month of March, Sierra Foothill Charter School staff worked with students on the meaning of the core virtue of compassion. At a school wide assembly on Friday, teachers recognized students who exemplified this trait. Great job to these students (pictured l-r): Brooke Gover, Kimberly Mohler, Ahsha Vaziralli, Lillan Engstrom, Devon Foster, Aurora Tyrosvoutis, Natalee Marundee, Kaia Ramirez, Gabe Walters, and Aiden Pierson.
SFCS 4354Teachers spoke about what actions they had noticed in students that made them chose those students to be recognized for compassion. Students were called up one at a time to receive a certificate and a handshake. Here (pictured above), TK/K teacher Chelsea Kamins congratulates Kimberly Mohler.
SFCS 4359Third and fourth grade teacher Teena Starchman was the school's Staff Member of the Month. Ms. Starchman always strives to give students her best. She has written and won numerous grants to support her educational program, she schedules guest presenters for her class, and she attends classes on her own time to improve her skills. Ms. Starchman has also learned the ukulele and is working to learn the piano so that she can teach her students to play them.
SFCS 4363Throughout the month, students are given tickets when they exhibit behavior that goes beyond what is normally expected. Students place their tickets in jars in their classrooms. When their ticket is picked, they have the option of immediately choosing a prize from the treasure chest in the school office or entering their ticket in a jar for a chance to win the grand prize for the month. Aurora Tyrosvoutis (pictured above) was this month's winner.
