April 6, 2019 - As always, I’m writing this on a Monday. The day after I have preached the gospel to the folks who attend Mariposa Reformed Baptist Church. It is on Mondays that I begin to outline my next sermon.
I dedicate some time every day to sermon prep. Around the end of week it is time for the conclusion and that is when I try to focus the most on the cross. Sermons are supposed to be drenched in the Gospel, but the sermon should end with the full octane 100-proof grace-saturated gospel truth. That is how I try to conclude all my sermons.
Folks that is a conclusion, a message, that should never get old to hear. I know I need to hear it every time I work on my sermon, and every time I preach it. I need to hear it from other Christians, and they need to hear it from me.
The weight of our sin is heavy and can drag us down to such lows that we have never been before. Without Christ, we would stand condemned before God. However (get ready for it), Romans 8:1 reads, “There is therefore now no condemnation for those who are in Christ Jesus.” That is the gospel truth that should be told to all. We can take comfort and assurance that we who are guilty, caught dead to rights, are bought by Christ. We who are guilty are set free. That is what I must preach every Sunday. It is why I conclude every Sunday with the truth that those with faith in Christ are forgiven.
