April 18, 2019 - Throughout the 2018-2019 school year, on the first Friday each month, Teena Starchman's third and fourth graders at Sierra Foothill Charter School have gotten together with Chelsea Kamins' TK/K students for Service Learning. Together, they create art projects for the residents of the Ewing Wing, John C. Fremont Healthcare District's long-term care facility. For April, students decorated eggs with colorful paper.
As a school-wide Service Learning project, SFCS is collecting donations to create gift baskets for the residents of the Ewing Wing. Mrs. Kamins' and Ms. Starchman’s students will deliver the gift baskets on their May 21st field trip to visit the residents. The students are asking for the community's help in filling the gift baskets with useful items. The list includes:
24 sets of unisex, adult house socks
24 blankets
24 toothbrushes/toothpaste
24 bars of unscented soap
24 notebooks/pens
24 bottles of unscented lotion
24 combs/brushes/hair clips
24 other personal care items (stick deodorant, body wash/spray)
24 sets of postage stamps
An Amazon wish list has been created for easy ordering and delivery to the school: https://tinyurl.com/ewingwing. (School address: SFCS, 4952 School House Road, Catheys Valley, CA 95306).
If you would like to participate and prefer to purchase your donations elsewhere and bring them to the school, that is also welcome. Students are hoping to make 24 baskets for the residents.
Jane Adcock, Mallory Allen, and Gavin Edwards show off the egg artwork they created. The artwork created by SFCS TK/K and first and second grade students now decorates the Ewing Wing to remind the residents that the school children are thinking of them throughout the month of April.
Naomi Newman and Izabella Wright hold up the decorated egg artwork they created as an April gift for residents of the Ewing Wing.
