April 19, 2019 - By Bob Labozetta (UC Master Gardener, Mariposa County) - You have marked your calendar, right? You have set your alarm so you can arrive early for the best selections, right? In other words, you will attend the annual UC Master Gardeners of Mariposa County Spring Plant Sale on Saturday, April 27, 2019, in the Amigo Picnic Area of the County Fairgrounds, from 8:00 A.M. – 1:00 P.M. (or until sold out)... right?

The UC Master Gardeners have been hard at work volunteering their time and expertise to bring you a wide selection of landscape and vegetable plant offerings -- adhering to this year’s theme “From Our Gardens to Yours.”

Don’t let the preponderance of plants in these photos fool you into complacency—that they will be available during the noon hour. Past experience dictates early arrival to guarantee availability.

Once again, this annual event offers unbelievably low prices for garden vegetables and landscape plants suited to our local climate that include varieties difficult to find at commercial nurseries. The exemplary selections include salvias, young desert willow, eastern redbud, mimosa, natives, and drought tolerant plants. Vegetable choices encompass multiple varieties of tomatoes, eggplants, peppers, squashes, melons, cucumbers, basil, parsley, rosemary, and many more.

Added attractions at the plant sale include the Garden Art Center, the Information Center featuring related gardening and landscaping organizations, and the ever-popular Mosquito Fish sale.

              So, be sure to:

  • Set your alarm for early arrival (or miss out on the best selections).
  • Bring a small ice chest for transporting the Mosquito Fish.
  • Bring boxes or crates to transport your plant purchases.

Oh, and did I say to arrive early to beat your neighbors to the best selections? If you have any questions, please feel free to contact us at (209) 966-2417 or visit our office at 5009 Fairgrounds Rd. in Mariposa.
