May 4, 2019 - Washington - Senator Dianne Feinstein (D-Calif.) released the following statement after the Trump administration filed a brief in the Fifth Circuit suggesting the Affordable Care Dianne FeinsteinAct is unconstitutional:

“The Trump administration yesterday filed a brief in Texas v. U.S. in which it argues that the entirety of the Affordable Care Act should be found unconstitutional and struck down.

“This is the latest dangerous step in President Trump’s quest to eliminate the Affordable Care Act, a law that has helped millions of families find and afford health insurance and has saved lives.

“Make no mistake, by arguing that every component of the ACA is unconstitutional, the Trump administration is signaling that it wants to return to the days when individuals with pre-existing conditions could be refused health insurance and sham policies failed to cover important health benefits upon which millions rely.

“Millions of Americans would be harmed if the administration has its way. In addition to gutting coverage protections for people regardless of their medical history, President Trump’s plan would mean higher insurance costs for families in California and across the country. Young Americans would be kicked off their parents’ plans and zero-cost preventive care would no longer be required.

“We beat back multiple Republican efforts to repeal the Affordable Care Act in the past, and I’m confident that Americans won’t stand for this latest attempt to undermine this vital law. I won’t stop fighting to keep the ACA safe and make it even stronger. It’s too important to stop fighting.”
