Thunderstorms are possible in Merced, Mariposa, Oakhurst, and Yosemite.
May 8, 2019 - The National Weather Service Hanford Office reports a few strong thunderstorms are possible in the Southern Sierra Nevada, adjacent foothills, Kern County mountains, and extending into portions of the San Joaquin Valley and the Kern County desert.
Some thunderstorms are even possible over the Sierra Nevada and foothills this afternoon and evening; however, a better chance is expected for Thursday.
Funnel clouds, small hail, and wind gusts near 40 miles per hour are some of the hazards associated with strong thunderstorms.
In addition to dangerous cloud to ground lightning strikes, any thunderstorm can produce intense rainfall rates, leading to very localized flooding.
