Mariposa Library Wendy and FlashMay 28, 2019 - Meet local authors at the Mariposa County Authors Fair on Saturday, June 8. Admission is free to this new event, which takes place from 10:00 A.M. to 4:00 P.M.

About a dozen published authors will be on hand to sign, sell and read excerpts from their books and give mini workshops on the writing process. Among those in attendance will be; Lucille Apcar, Wendy Brown (pictured left with her dog Flash), Linda and Archie Dixon, Jennifer Fosgate (pictured below), John Hulbert, Lori Oliver-Tierney, Sharon Power, Michael Ross, Vicki Thomas, George Tuthill and Barbara Wehman.  All age levels will be represented—children’s, young adult and adult—as well as a variety of genres, from fantasy to non-fiction to poetry.

Readings will take place throughout the day in the courtyard “book café” behind the library, where light refreshments will be offered for sale. Children can make crafts in the children’s room and try to break a book piñata made by Library volunteer Nancy Francis at noon.

Everyone will have a chance to get to know the authors personally with a scavenger hunt that will feature questions that the writers will have to answer. All those completing the hunt will receive a small prize and will have a chance to win larger prizes of books donated by the authors.Mariposa Library Jennifer Fosgate s

Some of the best book ideas have started as ideas jotted on napkins. Following in that tradition will be a “Best Book Idea on a Napkin” contest using a one-word prompt. The ideas will be judged by the authors and winners will receive gift certificates to the Friends of Mariposa Library Books Galore used bookstore, which will also be open during the fair. Winners will be chosen three times during the day.

Other activities include chalk writing on the sidewalks and a community poem where individuals can add a line to a poem that will be read on the Write to Read show sponsored by the Library’s adult literacy program on Mariposa community radio, Children will also have the opportunity to write a short story or poem, which will also be read on the program. These can be written in advance and dropped off at the Library during the event.
