May 31, 2019 - On Wednesday, May 29, eleven of Mariposa County High School's twelve valedictorians attended a special dinner in their honor hosted by the MCHS Academic Boosters Club at CostaLivos in downtown Mariposa.

At MCHS, students earn the title of Valedictorian by taking the most rigorous courses offered at MCHS as determined by the classes available upon entry as freshmen. Their course load included four years of math through pre-calculus, four years of science with three being lab sciences, three years of the same foreign language, Advanced Placement (AP) English Literature and AP English Language, and all Honors and AP classes available to them. Valedictorian students must earn a “B” or higher in all classes and maintain a weighted GPA of 4.0 or higher.

This year's Valedictorian Dinner was a very special evening. Each student attended with their chosen mentor and two guests. There was time in the program for valedictorians to speak about why they chose their mentors and for mentors to voice heartfelt words about the valedictorians. In addition, guest speaker Laura Shenk (2014 MCHS graduate and valedictorian) shared her thoughts with all in attendance.

Sierra Tel donated $1,000 towards the event. In addition to the meal, ABC gave each valedictorian a $50 Amazon gift card to help with college supply purchases and a succulent from Creekside Nursery. MCHS gave each student a special valedictorian medallion.

Don and Kim Costa of CostaLivos provided a lovely setting and delicious meal and their staff did a fabulous job in making the night a success.

Earning the title of Valedictorian is quite a feat. Congratulations to the valedictorians on this superb academic achievement and best wishes to them on their academic journeys.
