June 4, 2019 - Sierra Foothill Charter School held its Open House on Thursday, May 30. Family and friends were welcomed into each classroom and the Learning Garden to see what students have been up to this year. The classrooms also featured science activities for visitors to enjoy.

SFCS 6258It was a full house of students and family members enjoying the displays and student work in the fifth and sixth grade classroom.

In addition, the Catheys Valley Girl Scouts organized a Mini Fun Fair and Silent Auction during the Open House to raise money for a sensory pathway.

A sensory path is a colorful, creative, and playful way for kids to build sensory pathways - connections in the brain that are responsible for sight, touch, sound, and so on - which in turn enable kids to complete complex, multi-stage tasks.
SFCS 0789Here is an example of a sensory pathway similar to what the Girl Scouts are raising money to install on a sidewalk at SFCS.

Catheys Valley Girl Scouts hosted kids' stations in the courtyard. They sold $1 tickets to used for various games and prizes such as:

  • Adopt-a-Puppy where students could adopt an adorable plush puppy that comes with their very own adoption certificates;
  • A portrait station where girl scouts sketched ticket holders' portraits;
  • Original artwork was for sale;
  • DIY butterfly scratch art decor;
  • Make-your-own buttons;
  • and a "lemon? or orange?" blind taste test!

SFCS 6270Parent Carolin Frank helps children make buttons while girl scout Sonja Tryglsland entices people to try the blind taste test.

The Girl Scout's Silent Auction included a handcrafted leather tote bag; local Sticks Coffee 6-month subscription; custom, handmade leather costume mask; Anahata gift basket; Little Oven Pizza gift card; dinner and spa for two at The Yosemite Bug; Do-Terra starter pack including diffuser; and tigers and daggers gift card and swag. Lucky winners went home with great prizes!

Sonora Tacos was on site to provide dinner for all who wished to purchase it.

It was a fun and successful evening celebrating the school community. Students very much enjoyed showing family members and the community what they've been working on. Classrooms all looked fantastic. Girl Scouts made progress in raising the necessary funds to install a sensory pathway on campus.
