June 4, 2019 - Representatives from CAL FIRE and Mariposa County Fire spent time at Sierra Foothill Charter School on Thursday, May 30. They visited Chelsea Kamins' transitional kindergarten and kindergarten classroom and Wendy Baumann's first and second grade classrooms. They engaged students in many great activities to make them aware of fire safety and to be sure students won't be afraid if they ever see fire personnel in full gear. Fire fighters even brought their service dog for students to meet. Students very much enjoyed the visit and learned a lot of valuable information.
SFCS 2240CAL FIRE representative Jaime Williams spoke to Wendy Baumann's first and second grade students and showed drawings of various activities undertaken by firefighters when on the job.

One of CAL FIRE's activities involved informing students what to do if they ever come across matches (bottom line: tell an adult). They had lots of scenarios for students to act out.

SFCS 2269Jaime Williams explained the functions of all the gear firefighters wear piece by piece as one fireman suited up for students to see.

SFCS 6515The firefighters also visited Chelsea Kamins' transitional kindergarten/kindergarten classroom. One activity involved a firefighter crawling amidst the children in full gear. Students were told to stay low in a fire and not be scared if they see a firefighter coming towards them.

In addition to Jaime Williams, the firefighters who visited SFCS included CAL FIRE representatives Justin Wass and Ian Fremd; and Tom Habeck and Frank Johnson.
