Cousin Jack’s Mariposa Evenings - brought to you by The Mariposa County Arts Council and its many fine sponsors - presents, live in concert: Steve Johnson and Those BobTones on Friday, August 8 and on Saturday, August 9, Glen Delpit and The Subterraneans.
S.-Johnson-BobTones
Steve Johnson and Those BobTones

Those BobTones assembled in Merced in the late seventies gaining instant popularity in the area, with some members going on to success on the broader music scene. Original member/guitarist Steve “Mouse” Johnson moved east to the New York City area and since then has enjoyed immense success as a respected performer and session recording artist. Johnson won Guitar Player Magazine’s 1992 competition as “Best Blues Guitarist,” been twice voted “Best Blues Band” by the New York Jazz & Blues Society, recorded numerous CDs, toured internationally, and has established himself as as one of the busiest and most popular blues singer/guitarists on the East coast. Johnson and his West coast cohorts, Those BobTones gather for a reunion once or twice a year and have performed at Mariposa Evenings five out of the last eleven seasons. The band still holds the attendance and tips record for their performances at the Art Park. This year’s performance will again include a horn section featuring Tim White, and Julie Sax, also a heavy hitter on the New York music scene.

Glen-Delpit
Glen Delpit and The Subterraneans
Born in New Orleans, lately based in Fresno, 2010 Fresno Magazine’s Musician of the Year poll winner Glen Delpit has been mining the roots of American Music (Americana) with his blusey and folk oriented slide guitar style for almost 40 years now. Making his Mariposa Evenings debut, together with his band, The Subterraneans, they harvest bits of Blues, Folk, Rock, Country, and R&B into a driving and highly danceable sound - original in content - that has been called Rootsy Blues Americana. Delpit, both solo and with the band, has shared the stage over the years with kings of the genre (including John Lee Hooker, Bo Diddley, & Leon Russell) too numerous to mention here. The band’s newest CD, “Life is Like Shakespeare” and Glen’s solo recording, “After the Rain”, will be available at the show. For more info on and samples of this veteren music man and band’s sound, go to: glendelpit.com or their facebook page.

The full schedule can be found at: www.mariposaartscouncil.org.

All performances begin at 7 p.m. at the Mariposa County Art Park, located on Hwy. 140, between 4th and 5th Streets, in historic downtown Mariposa, CA. Free parking on 5th Street along the Creek Walkway to the Park, also providing handicapped access.

The shows are free to the public – tips for the performers will be solicited, encouraged, and appreciated.

The Arts Council, sponsor of the Mariposa Evenings, is an incorporated not-for-profit organization, created to promote and support all forms of the cultural arts, for all ages, throughout Mariposa County and is supported in part by the County of Mariposa, the National Endowment for the Arts, a federal agency, and the California Arts Council, a state agency.
