Ron Webb PortraitJune 11, 2019 - Light painting, a unique way to create photos, will be presented to the public at the next gathering of the Mariposa Photo club on Wednesday, June 12 at 6:30 p.m. The group meets in the Mariposa Room at the Mariposa County Human Services Building (5362 Lemee Lane) located on Hwy. 49N.

Light painting, light drawing, or light art performance photography is a photographic technique in which exposures are made by moving a hand-held light source while taking a long exposure photograph, either to illuminate a subject or to shine a point of light directly at the camera, or by moving the camera itself during exposure. The technique is used for both scientific and artistic purposes, as well as in commercial photography. Light painting has long inspired photographers with the technique capturing a moving light source while taking a long exposure photograph which may be difficult to perfect but can produce exciting results.

The guest speaker of the evening will be Ron Webb. A former high school photography teacher, Webb says, “I've been addicted to photography since I bought my first camera in 1977.” Originally, he was a self-taught photographer who was fortunate enough to eventually take many classes and participate in workshops taught by some of the great "American Masters of Photography". Even though he has retired from the classroom, Webb continues to mentor, judge photography competitions, and do contract photography for a variety of clients.

This meeting is open to the public and everyone is encouraged to attend. Memberships are also available for $12 a year. One of the benefits of membership is receiving a discount on mounting boards for fair entries.

After the evening presentation there will be a photo share with critiquing and public members are encouraged to stay for it.  A brief business meeting will follow after a break.
