Pastors Corner 200

June 12, 2019 - The doctrine that comes to my mind more and more is the doctrine of vocation. I know many might shy away from talking about doctrine, but I would encourage you to take some time to think and study such things. R.C. Sproul wrote a book titled Everyone’s a Theologian and I believe that to be true.

Elder Wynter SturtevantThe doctrine of vocation has been on mind and I think it will stick with you as well once you learn more about it. We have a vocation, we all have a calling. 1 Corinthians 7:17 reads “Only let each person lead the life that the Lord has assigned to him, and to which God has called him…” We are not all called to be bakers, farmers, peace officers, mechanics, social workers, you name it. Some are called to pastors of churches while others are not. It might be a shock for some but there are even some called to become lawyers (insert laughter). Seriously, God has given folks different callings and we Christians are to go out and love our neighbor through them. We are the instruments of God which he uses for his will. Think of the doctor who helps the ailing neighbor and administers treatment. Think about your own calling and know that the Lord gave you the abilities and skills to do that vocation. May you strive to love your neighbor. Remember though that we are to strive to do this, we will fail on a regular basis. Praise God that our salvation is not through how much we love our neighbor but through Jesus Christ and faith in him. The Gospel is for those who do not and cannot perfectly love God and love our neighbor (which is us). When we fail at loving our neighbor may we remember that through Christ we are forgiven.
