December 31, 2015 - The Mariposa County Board of Supervisors announced today that Robert Ryder, MD, MSc will be the next County Health Officer. County Health Officer Dr. Charles Mosher retired at the end of 2014 and Dr. Ryder will succeed him to lead the Health Department beginning January 5, 2015.

Dr. Robert (Robin) Ryder is a graduate of the College of Physicians and Surgeons at Columbia University in New York and a post medical graduate of the London School of Tropical Medicine and Hygiene. He completed his infectious diseases training in the joint Harvard Medical School, Beth Israel/Boston Children’s Hospital Program in Boston.

Dr. Ryder has spent two long stints at the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) in Atlanta, first as an Epidemic Intelligence Service Officer in enteric diseases and then as director of CDC’s HIV research program in Kinshasa, Democratic Republic of Zaire. He also directed the infectious disease program in the Department of Epidemiology at the School of Public Health, University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill and was for the last several years a Master Teacher, Professor of Clinical Medicine for the University of San Diego, School of Medicine.

He is well published and well respected throughout the medical community.
