Julia ParkerJuly 28, 2019 - Julia Parker will be giving a demonstration at the Mariposa Museum and History Center on Saturday, August 10 at 2:00 P.M.  Julia is well known throughout California and nationwide as a cultural icon, basket weaver, and storyteller, carrying on the traditions of her Kashaya Pomo, Miwok and Paiute heritage.  Particularly in Yosemite National Park where she worked for 57 years as an Interpretive Park Ranger.

For many years she was a focal point of the Visitor’s Center in Yosemite, sitting, making her baskets, and telling stories to any who cared to stop and show an interest in what she was doing.

In 2007 Julia was a recipient of the National Heritage Fellowship Award from the National Endowment for the Arts, the United States' highest honor in folk and traditional arts.

We feel very blessed and fortunate to have Julia take time and offer to do this afternoon event in her support of the Mariposa Museum and History Center.

Admission is free for this event.  Please visit the Mariposa Museum on Facebook for event updates. Email mmhc@sti.net or call (209) 966-2924 for more information.

The museum is located at 5119 Jessie St., Mariposa.  Visit the Mariposa Museum website at MariposaMuseum.com.
