July 31, 2019 – By Corinne Dedini, UC Master Gardeners of Mariposa County - One of the best things about small town living is shopping locally, and it doesn’t get any more local than the Mariposa Farmers Market. Come get an iced coffee and fresh scone to enjoy while you fill your basket with delicious, locally grown fruit, veggies, and nuts. Be sure to stop by the UC Master Gardener table as well.
Our Master Gardeners are locally trained, and they have research-based expertise as well as practical experience in gardening and landscaping in the Sierra Foothills. They can answer your summer questions on everything from why your tomato blossoms fall off to what to do about your gophers. They also have resources to help with the unique seasonal challenges of foothill living: defensible space for fire safety, landscaping with native and low water use plants, attracting pollinators, organic orchard and garden management, and controlling invasive weeds and pests.
The market happens each Wednesday from May to October from 5:00 P.M. to 6:30 P.M. in the parking lot at the corner of 6th and Stroming, just one block below Main Street. Last year, UC Master Gardeners helped over 300 local residents and visitors address their garden and landscaping issues at the Mariposa Farmer’s Market.
Come visit our friendly Master Gardeners—ask a question, say hi, pick up some literature or check out our event schedule! Bring a bit of cash and take home some local produce while you’re there.
