August 9, 2019 - Merced College is ready to embark on its 57th academic school year with our annual staff gathering of Convocation.

merced college The annual event, which is held in conjunction with the Convocation Carnival, takes place on the Friday before the start of the fall term each year. The more than 800 Merced College administrators, faculty and classified staff gather together to celebrate the previous school year’s accomplishments and to discuss the College’s goals for the year to come.

Ken Nwadike Jr. will be the keynote speaker at this year’s event. Nwadike, Jr. is a documentary filmmaker, motivational speaker, peace activist and the founder the Free Hugs Project.

The day concludes with the Convocation Carnival, an evening of food, fun and bonding for Merced College employees and their immediate families. The Carnival will be held on the lawn of the IAC Amphitheater from 5:00 P.M. - 8:00 P.M.

Funded entirely through contributions from Pepsi, EECU and the Merced College Foundation, the Carnival will have water slides, a rock climbing wall, a giant fun slide, music, face painting and lots of food, including barbecue Tri-Tip sandwiches from the Merced College Veterans.

“Truly great things are happening and everyone at Merced College is doing their part in making this the very best place to work in the community college system,” Superintendent/President Chris Vitelli said.
