Area Forecast Discussion National Weather Service Hanford CA 151 AM PDT Fri Aug 23 2019 .SYNOPSIS... Temperatures will be near normal across the Central California Interior through today. A warming trend will take place this weekend, and highs will top out around 4-8 degrees above normal by early next week. Dry weather continues, except for a slight chance of showers or thunderstorms near the Sierra crest by the middle of next week. && .DISCUSSION... Area of low pressure over the Northern Rockies and its associated trough is diving into the Great Basin as depicted on water vapor satellite. Meanwhile a ridge of high pressure is pushing southeast into California and this feature will be the main weather influence for the next several days as temperatures edge back over the century mark in lower elevations. The ridge of high pressure is progged to remain in place over the area through the weekend and into the middle of next week. Dry weather will continue, however forecast models indicate a weak trough of low pressure will move into the coast on Wednesday and with slightly cooler temperatures aloft (increased instability) a few thunderstorms may form over the Sierra crest during this period. Models then strengthen the ridge Thursday through the end of the week. All in all continued hot and dry.Source: NWS
