Fire Summary: Crews will continue to mop up, secure, and rehabilitate the El Portal fireline today. Areas that were damaged in the suppression effort are being repaired to help reduce soil erosion and visual impacts. These efforts include building water-bars, chipping large concentrations of slash from dozerline construction, pulling berms, and obscuring turnouts that were created by large equipment. Excess equipment, supplies, flagging, and garbage are also being removed. The Badger Pass Incident Command Post will be dispersed today and replaced by the Drew Meadow camp by this evening. All nonessential personnel and equipment are being released; many will go on to other fires in the region. A core group of firefighters and support personnel will stay on until the El Portal Fire is fully contained. The California Interagency Incident Management Team 5, under the command of Carlton Joseph, would like to thank cooperators and community members for their support throughout the suppression efforts. Tomorrow morning, the team will transfer command of the El Portal and Dark Hole Fires to a smaller local Type 3 organization.
