10 12 19 Oakhurst Library

October 2, 2019 - Local and regional authors, poets, illustrators and other industry professionals are invited to participate at a Central Sierra Authors Faire scheduled from 10:00 A.M. – 3:00 P.M. on Saturday, October 12, 2019, near both the Oakhurst Branch Library and the Oakhurst Community Park on Civic Circle Drive.

The Authors Faire is sponsored by the Oakhurst Branch Library and is free to the public. That day, the Oakhurst community will also be celebrating the second day of its annual Fall Festival in the park.

“The Authors Faire and the Fall Festival are separate events occurring on the same day in the same vicinity,” said Dale Rushing, the library’s branch manager.

Monica McClanahan, an organizer of the Authors Faire and a former book store owner in the area, said “the purpose of the event is to make people aware that there are many authors in our community who write books representing a wide range of genres that would appeal to anyone who loves to read. Our event will bring those authors and those readers together.”

Besides meeting and talking with authors, illustrators and poets at the event, people can have books they purchase signed by the author or take advantage of the opportunity to find a Christmas gift for family members and others.

“Authors are always excited about finding new outlets for their books as well as enthusiastic readers,” said local author Vicki Thomas, who will bring the fantasy novels she writes for young people to the event.

Attendees (and authors) can also buy tickets to win sponsored raffle prizes during the event. The raffle will be held at the end of the Fall Festival on Sunday, October 13, 2019. Some donated prizes include a cabin stay, a skydiving trip, a flight for two over the Sierras and certificates for pizza and other food items at local restaurants.

Hungry authors will find food available for purchase in the community park during Fall Festival hours on Saturday from 10:00 A.M. – 8:00 P.M. A single day entry to the park costs $3.

According to McClanahan, tables and chairs will be available to authors to display their books and other products; however, they are encouraged to bring their own pop-ups. The cost to rent space at the event is $10. This fee covers a table, chair, tablecloth, name tag and basic signage.

The last Authors Faire sponsored by the Oakhurst library was held in 2016. The free-to-the-public event is also co-sponsored by the Friends of the Oakhurst Branch Library. For more information about the event, people can call the library at (559) 683-4838. Authors can visit CentralSierraAuthorsFaire.com to register for the event.
