The AGs successfully prevent implementation of Public Charge Rule set to go into effect on October 15, 2019 in their jurisdictions

October 12, 2019 - SACRAMENTO – California Attorney General Xavier Becerra issued the following statement after successfully leading four attorneys general in securing a preliminary injunction in California v. U.S. Department of Homeland Security. The preliminary injunction blocks the Trump Administration’s attempt to discourage eligible immigrants and their families from accessing critical health, nutrition, and housing programs, jeopardizing the well-being of hardworking families, including women, children, and seniors.

“Today’s court ruling stops the Trump Administration’s heartless attempt to weaponize essential healthcare, housing, and nutrition programs,” said Attorney General Becerra. “This ruling is a victory for California communities who deserve to thrive, not live in fear. We look forward to continuing the fight against this unlawful rule. The Trump Administration ought to learn that no one is above the law.”

Attorney General Becerra led a coalition of attorneys general from: Maine, Oregon, Pennsylvania, and the District of Columbia.
