October 14, 2019 - FRESNO - Last week, Congressman Jim Costa released the following statement after working with Congressional colleagues TJ Cox (CA-10) and Josh Harder (CA-21) in sending a jim costa congressman california 16th districtletter to EPA Administrator Andrew Wheeler and Secretary of Transportation Elaine Chao in response to the Trump Administration's proposal to implement the Safer Affordable Fuel-Efficient (SAFE) Vehicle Rule:

“This week I  submitted a letter to EPA Administrator Andrew Wheeler and Secretary of Transportation Elaine Chao along with fellow members of the Valley delegation in response to the Trump Administration's proposal to implement the Safer Affordable Fuel-Efficient (SAFE) Vehicle Rule,” said Costa.

“Through the efforts of the San Joaquin Valley Air Pollution Control District (SJVAPCD), which I helped create, and the California Air Resources Control Board (CARB), California has achieved marked progress in reducing its carbon emissions and curbing pollution.

"Implementation of the SAFE rule threatens to undermine those efforts and inhibit progress to improving the air quality in the San Joaquin Valley. We are hopeful that the Administration will reconsider a proposal that will negatively impact both the environment and the health and well-being of millions across the State.”
