“This is going to be a great weekend and we are excited to have our facilities front and center for it,” said Brooke Gutierrez, MID Parks and Recreation Director.
“We couldn’t have picked a better park to host this race. Exchequer has a huge range of terrain for every type of race. Working out the details with the park has been a simple process,” said Ben Siranosian, Captain of Stanford's Mountain Biking team and the organizer of the race.
The races will be held on November 2 and 3. Exchequer Bike Park can be accessed through the Barrett Cove Recreation area entrance of Lake McClure. All entrance and camping fees will apply.
The weekend will be kicked off with a cross-country race starting at 8 a.m. on Saturday, November 2. Later in the day, a super-D race will put riders against the clock.
Events will continue on Sunday, November 3, with a short-track cross-country race in the morning, followed by a downhill race on the Flying Squirrel trail in the afternoon.
For further details, please see the race flyer (see below) and visit the Stanford Cycling website.
Those interested in participating will ride in “open” categories. The cross country races will start at the same time as collegiate categories, but different categories will be scored separately. Plenty of merchandise and prizes will be available.
Participants should plan to arrive at the park with plenty of time to register for their event. Racers need an annual USA Cycling license, and can purchase one at the event. Full face helmets are required for the super-D and downhill races.
A viewing area will be available for those to wanting to watch the race but not participate.
The regular parks day-use fee of $8 will apply during the races. Access will be through Lake McClure’s Barrett Cove Recreation Area.
The Stanford Cycling Club consists of approximately 50 members. They compete at road, cyclocross and mountain bike races in the Western Collegiate Cycling Conference, part of USA Cycling.
