October 25, 2019 - The MCHS Academic Boosters Club recently funded high school History teacher Stephanie Bobman's $348.60 grant request to take her 48 CCAP US History students on a field trip to the Mariposa Museum and History Center later this month. The field trip will supplement their early American history studies, providing local and meaningful context to students, and allowing for hands-on learning.
Local history is important in helping to form not only an academic connection to history, but also an emotional one. Understanding how their town and those who occupy it have participated in and influenced history over time helps students to have a more meaningful understanding of the significance of history, and of their own potential role.
The museum is organizing a special tour for these students that includes several exhibits and demonstrations. In addition, each student will get to go gold panning and keep their findings.
Here, Stephanie Bobman receives a check for the field trip from ABC Board Chair Jill Harry.
ABC is hosting a fundraising party at the Gold Coin on Friday, November 1, from 6:00 P.M. to 10:00 P.M. featuring a delicious buffet, dancing, games, a silent auction and more. Event tickets can be purchased at the Gold Coin, the Visitors Center, or Pony Expresso. They are $40 now, $45 at the door and include dinner. See all the details at bit.ly/GoldCoinABC. Community participation in fundraisers such as this make it possible for ABC to continue to fund grant requests such as Ms. Bobman's.
