October 26, 2019 - SONORA, Calif. — The Stanislaus National Forest provides the following information about road closures on Hetch Hetchy Road (USFS Road 1S02)

November 11, 2019 through December 23, 2019 East of Tawonga

 January 2, 2020 through February 3, 2020 West of Tawonga

Crews from the San Francisco Public Utilities Commission are installing road safety upgrades to Hetch Hetchy Road (USFS Road 1S02) which require road closures. Crews will install guardrails along several sections of Hetch Hetchy Road as part of this project. Please pay attention to road signage at the intersection of HWY 120 and Cherry Lake road, HWY 120 and Evergreen road and in camp Mather for details.

What to Expect During Road Closures:

  • Closure #1 Hetch Hetchy Road between mile marker 2.0 and mile marker 7.0 will be closed to traffic from November 11, 2019 through December 23, 2019

  • Closure #2 Hetch Hetchy Road between mile marker 0.0 and mile marker 1.5 is scheduled to be closed to traffic from January 2, 2019 through February 3, 2019 weather conditions dependent.

  • Emergency vehicles will have access at all times.

  • Tawonga residents, staff, and contractors will be escorted through to Camp Tawonga during designated 30-minute windows of time in the morning and again in the afternoon during Closure #2.

  • Crews will coordinate with affected camps on deliveries.

  • Closures will be in effect 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.
