Mariposa County LibraryNovember 12, 2019 - The Mariposa Library will hold an open house to introduce its new family literacy program on Thursday, November 21 from 6:00 P.M. to 8:00 P.M. The program is designed to help families develop strategies for successful learning at home. Parents and other adult caregivers will have an opportunity to sign up for the six-month program, which will consist of a series of interactive workshops where children and adults will work both individually and as a unit to learn activities they can do together at home to improve reading and writing skills.

A buffet-style dinner will be served during the open house, and everyone will take part in a sample workshop activity. Children will also receive a free book. Teens are welcome.

Anyone interested in participating in the workshops will have an opportunity to register during the open house. Families may choose either morning or evening workshops, which will be held twice a month. The workshops, including materials, age and reading level appropriate children’s books, and meals, are free of charge. The first, “ Sparking Conversations with Your Child” will be held Wednesday, December 4 from 5:45 P.M. to7:30 P.M. and again Thursday, December 12 from 9:45 A.M. to 11:30 A.M.

A similar program will be taking place at the Greeley Hill Library beginning in January.

There are three ways for families to register: in person at the Library, by calling (209) 966-2140 or emailing karen.dusek@mariposalibrary.org.

The family literacy program is made possible by a grant from the California State Library.
