November 16, 2019 - Yosemite National Park says thinking about a Yosemite backpacking trip next spring or summer? It’s time to start planning!
🌲 Wilderness permit applications are accepted 24 weeks in advance, which means that reservations for the first dates in May will open up this weekend! Check the chart for exact days to apply for your preferred start date: https://www.nps.gov/yose/planyourvisit/wildpermitdates.htm
🌲 60 percent of the permits for each trailhead are reservable. The other 40 percent are available on a first-come, first-served basis the day prior to the permit start date.
🌲 Remember that it’s your responsibility to research and plan your trip before you apply for a permit. As a good starting point, the park website now includes descriptions for common backpacking routes, including permit demand for each trailhead: https://www.nps.gov/yose/planyourvisit/trails.htm
🌲 Read through the information available on the park website to familiarize yourself with wilderness permits, food storage requirements, Leave No Trace ethics, and other important information: https://www.nps.gov/yose/planyourvisit/backpacking.htm
