November 20, 2019 - WASHINGTON—Will Shafroth, president of the National Park Foundation, the official nonprofit partner to the National Park Service, issued the following statement upon passage of the national park foundation logoRestore Our Parks Act by the Senate Committee on Energy & Natural Resources:

“The National Park Foundation commends Chairman Lisa Murkowski and Ranking Member Joe Manchin for their outstanding leadership to advance the bipartisan Restore Our Parks Act through the Senate Committee on Energy & Natural Resources.

This important step in the legislative process would not have been possible without bill sponsors Senator Lamar Alexander, Senator Angus King, Senator Rob Portman, and Senator Mark Warner, as their steadfast commitment to tackling our parks’ deferred maintenance needs paved the way for today’s strong bipartisan vote.

We also applaud each member of the committee who voted in favor of this significant investment in a bright future for our national parks, and thank the measure’s more than 40 bipartisan cosponsors for their support.

As the Foundation works with its vibrant community of national park champions to enrich the National Park Service’s second century of stewardship, we look forward to the Restore Our Parks Act’s timely consideration on the Senate floor and its eventual enactment into law.”
