November 25, 2019 - Free family literacy workshops begin Wednesday, December 4 at the Mariposa Library. Included with each workshop will be a meal or snack and free books for children. Parents/caregivers and their children are invited to attend and may register for either evening or morning programs. Teens and English language learners are welcome.
The six-month program is designed to help families develop strategies for successful learning at home. December activities will center around the topic of helping children learn language skills and build their vocabulary through conversation.
The program will continue through June, focusing on a different topic each month. Workshops will be divided into two parts. During the first part, adults and children will meet as two separate groups. The adults will learn, and practice activities modeled by the Library staff, while the children will take part in a story time and activity related to the skills and concepts the adults are learning. They will then meet together for a joint activity, followed by a meal or snack. Children will receive age appropriate books to take home after each workshop.
This month’s workshops will be held Wednesday, December 4 and Wednesday, December 18 from 6:00 P.M. to 7:30 P.M. and Thursday, December 12 and Thursday, December 19 from 10:00 A.M. to 11:30 A.M.
