December 5, 2019 - The Mariposa Library will hold an open house to introduce its new family literacy program at the Red Cloud Library in Greeley Hill  on Tuesday, December 10  at 3:00 P.M. The program is designed to help families develop strategies for successful learning at home. Parents and other adult caregivers will have an opportunity to sign up for the six-month program, which will begin in January.  The program will consist of a series of interactive workshops where children and adults will work both individually and as a unit to learn activities they can do together at home to improve reading and writing skills.

A light meal will be served during the open house, and everyone will take part in a sample workshop activity. Children will also receive a free book at each workshop to help build a home library. Teens are welcome.

Anyone interested in participating in the workshops will have an opportunity to register during the open house. The workshops, including materials, age and reading level appropriate children’s books, and meals or snacks, are free of charge. Topics include:  “ Sparking Conversations with Your Child,” “Playing with Sounds and Words,” “Building a Love of Books,” “Making the Most of Reading Time,” ”Building Reading Comprehension,” and “Drawing and Writing.”

There are three ways for families to register: in person at the Library, by calling (209) 966-2140 or emailing karen.dusek@mariposalibrary.org.

The family literacy program is made possible by a grant from the California State Library.
