December 22, 2019 - The National Weather Service Hanford Office reports a Winter Weather Advisory is in effect for the Southern Sierra Nevada above 4,500 feet from 7:00 A.M. today until 10:00 P.M. Monday night.
Also, a Winter Weather Advisory is in effect for the Grapevine, Cuddy Valley, and Fort Tejon above 5000 feet from 4 PM PST this evening until 10 PM Monday night.
A Winter Weather Advisory for snow means that periods of snow will cause primarily travel difficulties.
Snow levels will drop to as low as 4,500 feet.
The majority of this snow will fall this afternoon and evening.
Localized snow amounts of around 15 inches are possible above 5,500 feet.
Winds will gust as high as 45 mph on exposed ridgetops and near the crest.
Motorists should anticipate travel delays and slick, hazardous road conditions, as well as the potential for road closures above 4,500 feet.
If you will be driving into the mountains, consider alternate travel plans.
If you must travel, remember to carry tire chains, plenty of food, a good deal of water, and warm clothing in your vehicle.
