Mariposa, Calif. (January 26, 2015) – The Yosemite/Mariposa County Tourism Bureau and the Mariposa Chamber of Commerce today announced plans to partner with Caltrans to develop a comprehensive marketing strategy that emphasizes the positive results and mitigates negative publicity for the project referred to as the Ferguson Project. A comprehensive and robust marketing strategy is being developed to include paid advertisements, social media support, and other traveler resources and incentives.

Beginning in March 2015, a section of Highway 140 will undergo a renewal process that will result in a unique engineering spectacle, the longest structure of its kind in California.

The new project, set to kick-off with a dedication ceremony on March 13, 2015, will allow travelers to enjoy unencumbered, scenic and year-round access to Yosemite National Park. Development of the engineering marvel is expected to last through the end of 2017, with a break in construction during the 2015/2016 winter season.

“Both the Yosemite/Mariposa County Tourism Bureau and the Mariposa Chamber of Commerce look forward to the development of the Ferguson marvel and restoration of the Highway 140 corridor for locals and visitors to enjoy,” said Terry Selk, executive director of the Yosemite/Mariposa County Tourism Bureau.

“The Ferguson Project will provide visitors with a unique experience as they enter and exit Yosemite National Park,” said Mariposa County District IV Supervisor Kevin Cann. “This is a long anticipated project for our residents and local businesses. It will be another in the wide-ranging list of reasons for folks to access the park on the 140 corridor.”

“We are planning innovative ways to address visitor concerns” said Damian Riley, executive director of Mariposa Chamber of Commerce.“We also appreciate the concerns of residents along the Highway 140 corridor and will work with the Board of Supervisors to address their needs.”

The Yosemite/Mariposa County Tourism Bureau and Mariposa Chamber of Commerce will provide updates regularly on the progress of the Ferguson Project as it moves forward into future phases.
