January 23, 2020 - The Mariposa Library is the place to be for anyone who loves to learn. The next month is chock-a-block full of exciting free programs for all ages including classes in computers, crafts, film making and robotics, as well as family movies, story time, family literacy workshops, and genealogy and Kindle group meetings. Registration is required for all workshops and classes.

Film making for beginners will take place on
Saturday, February 1 and Saturday, February 8 from 10:00 A.M. to 2:00 P.M. Participants will learn how to use equipment, such as cameras and tripods, develop a storyboard and script, conduct an interview and use editing software while creating a two-to three-minute film. All equipment will be provided. This workshop is open to anyone aged 11 and older.


What says “I Love You” better than a handmade card and heartfelt craft? People of all ages are invited to make something special for someone special during the Valentine’s  Makerspace, Thursday, February 6 from 3:00 P.M. - 5:00 P.M.

Also, on February 6 from 6:00 P.M. - 7:30 P.M. is an orientation for those interested in volunteering as a tutor in the Adult literacy Program. The orientation is required prior to attending the tutor training scheduled for Wednesday, February 12 from 2:30 P.M. to 6:00 P.M. Tutors must be 18 years of age or older, have a high school diploma or equivalent and speak English well enough to communicate with adult learners.

Jerry Wagner of Red Tail Ridge Technical Services will be returning twice a month beginning Wednesday, February 12 to teach his popular computer classes. The focus this session will be on PCs (not Apple) computers, beginning with “The Basics of Computing (desktops)” on the 12th and “The Basics of Computing (laptops)” on Wednesday, February 26 from 12:00 noon to 2:00 P.M.

Those interested in learning more about using eBay and YouTube won’t want to miss Nancy Francis’ workshops “You Too Can YouTube” on Thursday, February 13 from 12:00 noon to 2:00 P.M. and “eBay for Beginners” on Thursday, February 20 from 12:00 noon to 2:00 P.M.

Kids can do simple experiments using supplies found around the home in  “Kitchen Chemistry” on Thursday, February 20 from 3:00 P.M. - 5:00 P.M. (ages 6 and older) and make a mini-bot  during “Robotics with Rebecca” on Saturday, February 22 from 10:00 A.M. to 12:00 noon (ages 9 and older). 

On-going programs include Story Time every Wednesday at 10:15 A.M.; family movies on the third Wednesday of the month at 3:15 P.M.—free bag of popcorn included; family literacy workshops, which include a free book for children and a light meal or snack on the first and third Wednesday from 6:00 P.M. - 7:30 P.M. and the second and fourth Thursday from 10:00 A.M. - 11:30 A.M. (registration required); Kindle Users Group on the third Saturday from 2:00 P.M. - 4:00 P.M.; and Genealogy Group from 2:00 P.M. - 4:00 P.M. on the fourth Saturday from 2:00 P.M. - 4:00 P.M.
