February 14, 2020 - SACRAMENTO, Calif. – Insurance Commissioner Ricardo Lara issued this statement in response to the California Senate’s announcement that it will pursue legislative solutions to address homeowner insurance non-renewals and home and community hardening, among other steps to combat wildfires and climate change:
"I absolutely welcome the continued engagement from Pro Tem Toni Atkins, Senate Insurance Committee Chair Susan Rubio, and the entire State Legislature on the critical issue of insurance availability for homeowners and partnering with me to find a solution to address increasing non-renewals in every area of our state. With Senate and Assembly leaders now hard at work on our insurance crisis, I look forward to joining with our Legislature to find lasting solutions that promote home and community hardening to protect existing homes from the double threats of wildfires and climate change."
