February 15, 2020 - SACRAMENTO - As women continue to earn less than men on average yet far too often pay more for the same products, Senator Hannah-Beth Jackson (D-Santa Barbara) will be joined by Congresswoman Jackie Speier (CA-14), business owners, and social justice advocates to raise awareness of the so-called “pink tax” in which many women’s products cost more than the same products marketed to men, and announce legislation to ban gender-based price discrimination in the sale of consumer goods.

Later that day, upon adjournment of Senate Session (estimated for 3:00 pm) in the state Capitol room 4203, Senator Jackson will convene a Joint Informational Hearing with the Senate Judiciary Committee, Select Committee on Women, Work and Families, and the California Legislative Women's Caucus on the pink tax entitled The Pink Tax: How Gender-Based Pricing Discrimination Undermines Women’s Economic Opportunity and What to do About it.
