Topic of Next Mariposa Photo Event - Backcountry Yosemite Photography

March 9, 2020 - Everyone is used to seeing the typical photographs from the typical tourist spots in Yosemite, but RJ Franklin goes to the next level with his photography. Not only does he hike to unusual spots, but sometimes he also stays up late at night to photograph the Milky Way over Yosemite.

You will be able to see many of his photographs and hear how he does it at the next gathering of the Mariposa Photo Club on Wednesday, March 11, 6:30 P.M. at the Mariposa Human Services Building at 5362 Lemee Lane, off Hwy 49N. The public is invited to attend this free event.

Raised in Fresno, Franklin used to be more into skateboarding than anything else. Then shortly before his move to Yosemite, he was taken out on his first astro photography shoot and fell madly in love with the concept. Now Franklin spends all his free time hiking to new spots in Yosemite and creating incredible photographs.

During the past seven years in Yosemite, Franklin has learned many of the fine points of photography there and will share how he plans and executes his photography sessions.

This event is sponsored by the Mariposa Photo Club. There is also a photo share with friendly critiques and a brief educational minute, which usually takes 10-15 minutes. Mentoring is available for new members. Annual memberships are $15 and gives you access to the website and a closed Facebook group where weekly challenges are presented.
