March 18, 2020 - Dear Mariposa County Unified School District Staff, Students, Families, and Community:

Mariposa County Unified School District canceled classes this week to provide an opportunity to prepare for further guidance from our federal and state MCUSD Logogovernments. We continue to approach the COVID-19 pandemic with a targeted calm approach, relying on public health experts, our Governor, and our President, to determine each step.

On the afternoon of March 16th, The President provided further guidance in his memo, “Coronavirus Guidelines for America.” In his guidelines, the President has asked that we all avoid social gatherings that bring groups of more than 10 people together. The goal of the President's action is to allow 15 days to slow the spread of COVID-19.

With this updated guidance and at the recommendation of the President, Mariposa County Unified School District will extend the cancelation of classes and all school-related activities from Monday, March 16th through Friday, March 27th. Schools will prepare to reopen Monday, March 30th, unless conditions call for an extension.

This extension will provide an opportunity for staff to review new guidance from our Governor, while allowing families time to plan and prepare in advance for cancelled classes.

During this time, we will continue to provide Nutritional Services to our students in our communities across our country.

I appreciate your patience as we continue to navigate our way through this every changing health emergency. The safety of our students, staff and community are at the forefront of every decision our team makes.

I want to thank our staff and community for their efforts and professionalism during this difficult time.

Our team is committed to maintaining regular and ongoing communication as we gain information and make the necessary adjustments.

Sincerely,

Jeff Aranguena
Superintendent
Mariposa County Unified School District
