With the help of students, the Sierra Foothill Charter School Learning Garden produced extra greens, potatoes, sunchokes (Jerusalem artichokes), and pumpkins. The school is now certified to sell produce and plants grown in the garden so on Tuesday, January 20, 2015 students did just that. Students harvested the vegetables and were responsible for all transactions, weighing produce, and calculating prices. The sale sold out! All proceeds will be put back into supplies for the garden. When the weather warms, students will hold a spring plant sale offering plant starters so that families can get their gardens at home started. Malte Salonen, Mary Britt, Regina Hill, Bradlee Teixeira and Jerry Moore gather round the produce table at the recent sale.
Cashiers Spencer Baumann and Azriel Murphy discuss business while Deb Salonen shops. Sierra Foothill Charter School is a free, non-profit, K-8 public school.
