Last week, Sierra Foothill Charter School teacher Teena Starchman's third and fourth graders entertained students and staff and then family in friends with their production of "Spaced Out: A Musical About Our Solar System and Beyond" by John Jacobson and Cristi Cary Miller.
Starchman directed and Instructional Aide Christy Lombard provided voice coaching. Students had practiced for months and their hard work showed in their wonderful performances. Students also created all the props (with a little help from family and friends) and they turned out great, too! In the musical, students play famous figures, such as Copernicus and Newton and astronaut Sally Ride, and have a conversation about the solar system with the moon and the sun. Students also represented all of the planets in this musical with each planet having something special to say. In one of the show's many musical numbers, students rocked out to a song about the order of the planets. Meteors and Asteroids also had parts to play. Students had very appreciative audiences. The students made information boards about all of the planets and characters in the play that were available for viewing before and after the performances.
