June 17, 2020 - The Mariposa County Friends of the Library have lost the sorting and storage building that they have used for the last 20 years. Unless a similar facility can be located, this loss poses an imminent threat to the continuation of the twice-Mariposa County Libraryyearly book sale and will likely force changes to the twice weekly Books Galore bookstore.

The Mariposa community has strongly supported the efforts of the Friends, and it is hoped that someone in the community has, or knows of someone who has, a viable facility or small building that could be offered to the Friends for this much needed resource. If so, please contact Dennis Baker at (209) 617-3990 at your earliest convenience.

The need is for 600 or more square feet of useable space to sort and store the thousands of books donated monthly, and the process is vital to any future book sales or the Books Galore. It would be desirable for the space to have electricity, hopefully running water, and if possible, air conditioning. The facility/building also needs to be within a reasonable distance to the main library in Mariposa.

With recent events affecting the entire County budget, the County Library system will likely be cut significantly, perhaps by a third or more, and the efforts of the Friends to augment and support those services becomes more important. The Friends will continue working to enrich the Library programs.

Without this much needed facility, book donations cannot be accepted, stored, or sorted at this time, and difficult decisions will need to be made about the continuation of the semi-annual Book Sales and Books Galore.
