June 20, 2020 - CLOVIS, Calif., – It is official; the US Forest Service Contracting Officer has issued the notice to proceed to replace the Lower Cow Creek Bridge. The contractor who has been awarded the contract will be on site on Monday July 20, 2020 to begin replacement of the lower Cow Creek Bridge. This project is scheduled to continue through November 17, 2020.

The reason for the delay in this project has been the length of time is has taken to appropriate funding and await final approval (contract awarding) before the contractor can proceed with acquisition of supplies and materials. For this project, the contractor had to order precast voided slab panels and it takes approximately 10 weeks for those to be built and delivered to the construction location.

All visitors to the 9S09 (Rock Creek) Rd. are asked to drive cautiously and be prepared for heavy equipment operating in the area while this project is underway. Please plan accordingly before your visit to the Sierra National Forest.

The Lower Cow Creek Bridge has been closed since the Summer of 2017, making access to the Dinkey Lakes Willow Meadow trailhead difficult. Two temporary detours to the trailhead have been established and can be obtained online at the Forest Webpage www.fs.usda.gov/sierra or from any Forest office.

Attached the detour routes are provided, along with some photos of the bridge during the last inspection.
