June 26, 2020 - On Thursday, the Mariposa County Unified School District Superintendent released a message to the school community on Fall reopening of schools.

June 25, 2020

Dear Mariposa County School Community,

On June 4th our team provided an update related to the COVID-19 situation and three different scenarios for reopening for the fall. Those Jeff Aranguena mariposathree scenarios are as follows: traditional classes, blended/hybrid learning model, and distance learning,

As Mariposa County continues to see a slight increase in the number of positive COVID-19 cases, our team understands and appreciates how important it is to our families, students, and employees, to ensure they have a safe environment to return to this fall, regardless of what scenarios we are reopening under. Additionally, our team also understands how important it is to our parents, students, and staff to return to school sites in the fall.

Our team continues to navigate these difficult times by staying in constant communication with our Health Officer, Union partners, and a variety of other important stakeholders. Critical information from parents, students, community leaders, has been vital as we develop and mold our reopening plan, under social distancing restrictions, which continue to provide difficult challenges in our ability to reopen in a traditional setting.

With these barriers in place, our team is reviewing the feasibility of reopening, while adhering to our Health Officers guidance. Although we have many obstacles in place, I can report that all stakeholder groups around Mariposa County are working together to problem solve this issue.

As this situation remains extremely fluid, I can assure you that over the coming weeks, whichever reopening model our schools adopts, our team will work diligently to inform parents and students. In the coming days, our team will be hosting a Facebook Live session in order to get additional feedback from our parents. On July 9th, our Board will be reviewing data and information collected from multiple stakeholders over the last few weeks, while also considering new legal language that has been adopted by our Governor and Legislature.

There is no doubt that reopening our schools will continue to take a collective effort from our entire Mariposa community. I ask that everyone continue to be patient and consider the unprecedented times we are facing. There are no school reopening playbooks for this pandemic, but with that said, this community has shown that we continue to rise to the challenge. We have a lot of work ahead of us, and I remain confident that our team will move forward together, step by step.

As Superintendent, I can assure you that our Board and team remains committed to serving our students through these difficult times.
