August 17, 2020 - (FRESNO) – Congressman Jim Costa (CA-16) released the following statement following the Trump Administration’s announcement opposing United States Postal Service funding in the next COVID-19 relief package:
“This is a threat to our democracy, plain and simple,” said Costa. “The pandemic has caused surging demand and increased reliance on the post office to deliver essentials like medicines, food, and protective equipment, and in November, votes. Meanwhile, the Administration has made sweeping structural changes that have resulted in serious delays and lowered service standards. We need to take action to ensure that every American’s vote counts.”
Last week, Congressman Costa signed onto a letter and urging Postmaster General DeJoy’s reversal of new policies that have delayed mail delivery. He also recently cosponsored the Delivering for America Act to prevent changes to operations or service standards until after the COVID-19 pandemic ends.
