August 23, 2020 - On Saturday, Congressman Kevin McCarthy released the following statement after President Trump announced a Major Disaster Declaration following the devastating California wildfires:

“As wildfires continue to burn throughout California, this Major Disaster Declaration request – made by Governor Newsom and swiftly approved by President Trump – will provide critical federal funds to help us contain these fires. I am grateful to the Trump Administration, along with the ten states that have sent additional on-the-ground help, for recognizing the severity of the situation and collaborating with us to fight these wildfires. Judy and I send our heartfelt thanks to all the firefighters, first responders, and emergency service workers fighting to minimize damage and, more importantly, save lives. I will continue working with state, local, and federal partners to ensure that our communities have the necessary resources they need to remain safe during this time.”

On Friday, Congressman Kevin McCarthy joined Congressman Mike Thompson (CA-05), Congressman Doug LaMalfa (CA-01), and their California colleagues in a bipartisan letter to President Trump supporting a major disaster declaration.
