Location: Both sides of San Joaquin River near Mammoth Pool and the communities of Shaver Lake, Big Creek and Huntington Lake.
This vegetation fire is burning on the Sierra National Forest. The fire is located near the San Joaquin River and the communities of Big Creek and Huntington Lake. The cause is under investigation. Fire crews, engines, dozers and aircraft are at scene. Crews are challenged today by steep rugged terrain, heavy fuel loading and high temperatures. Additional resources have been ordered including a Type 1 Incident Management Team. The Fire has crossed to the north side of San Joaquin River and is impacting areas near Mammoth Pool. Evacuations and closures remain in effect.

Significant Events: Evacuations and Road Closures. Mandatory Evacuations in place for the communities of Big Creek, Huntington Lake and Cascadel Woods. Hwy 168 is closed 2.7 miles east of Prather below the four lanes. Visitors are advised that there is no access to the Shaver Lake area.
Per Sierra National Forest:
53 individuals were rescued from the Mammoth pool Boat launch area, will be evaluated for injuries, Forest Service continues to make access via vehicles. Information to Follow as it is made available.

*Local Emergency Declaration*
As the Director of Emergency Services, Sheriff Tyson Pogue has declared a local State of Emergency for Madera County. The Creek Fire crossed over the San Joaquin River this afternoon and rapidly spread resulting in conditions of extreme peril to the safety of persons and property. The local emergency declaration will be sent ultimately to the Governor’s Office after ratification by the Board of Supervisors.

There is an immediate threat to life. This is an evacuation order to leave now. The area is being closed to public access. Take action immediately. Update 2:00 P.M. Per Madera County Sheriff's Office: No change in status. Small fires believed to be #CreekFire spot fires. Kinsmen Flat, Rock Creek, Fish Creek mandatory evacuations. Cascadel under evacuation warning. Evacuees should meet at North Fork School where an information center is being established. NB Rd 225 closed.

Update 1:30 P.M. Per Madera County Sheriff's Office: A Evacuation Warning has been issued for Cascadel Woods due to FIRE. There is a potential threat to life and property. Monitor the situation and be prepared to take action immediately. Don’t wait for an evacuation order to leave if you feel threatened. Update: Madera County Sheriff’s Office Issues Evacuation Order and Warnings Due to Creek Fire
September 5, 2020 - Per InciWeb: On Friday September 4, 2020 at about 6:44 PM the Creek Fire started. This fire is burning in the Big Creek drainage between Shaver Lake, Big Creek and Huntington Lake, cause of this fire is under investigation.
Acres: Approximately 2000
Vegetation: Timber, Brush and Understory Litter
Evacuations: Sierra Camp, and Big Creek
Closures: Hwy 168 closed at Huntington Lake Road and at the top of the four lane Cressman's. These are hard closures CHP road block in place.
For the safety of fire crews, and the public who are leaving the area weekend visitors are asked to make alternate plans. Shaver Lake is closed.
More information will be provided when obtained as this is an active initial attack and resources are committed to a full suppression engagement of the Creek Fire.
