March 6, 2015 - In order to protect the environmentally sensitive Wishon Quarry Reclamation Area on the Bass Lake Ranger District from unauthorized motor vehicle impacts and other human disturbance, a short term Closure Order for Roads will be required. This Order is effective from February 20, 2015 through February 19, 2016.

Motor vehicle entrance into this area will cause disturbance to the planted vegetation and sensitive top soil and could detrimentally impact erosion control measures designed to maintain slope stability. This short term closure includes the following National Forest System roads: Forest Road No. 7S86X from Country Road 222, then continuing west to its intersection with Forest Road No. 7S86 and Forest Road No. 7S86XA, from its intersection with Forest Road No. 7S86X, then continuing south to its ending point.

The purpose of the action is to cooperate with requirements to fortify the Crane Valley Dam (owned by Pacific Gas & Electric Company (PG&E) and authorized under Federal Energy Regulatory Commission (FERC) License #1354) against seismic activity that could result in an uncontrolled release of the reservoir, threatening lives and property downstream. The need is to minimize risk by restoring the Dam's seismic stability as soon as practicable; to authorize activities on NFS lands through appropriate instruments; and to identify and implement mitigation measures to protect the human environment, and NFS lands and resources during construction, postconstruction reclamation, and monitoring.
