INCIDENT UPDATE 9/13/20 9AM

Current situation information from Fresno County:

Last night temperatures cooled but relative humidity remained low over the South Zone. The fire continued to burn actively through the night. Northeast winds in the higher elevation pushed the smoke back down to the lower elevations. The fire became the most active after 10:00 pm. Active runs and torching were observed in the early morning. The fire continued to progress to the northeast in the San Joaquin River drainage.

Smoke from the Creek Fire and the SQF Complex is once again expected to impact the region for most of the day. Shading from smoke will keep temperatures down. The threat to the structures will remain throughout the day as the fire burns in the foothills. This includes Jose Basin where the fire is moving toward structures, and Shaver Lake, where the fire is working it’s way around to the east side. The east portion of the fire will spread deeper into the canyons with the diurnal winds and short to medium range spotting. The fire will start to work into the Blue Canyon area, which contains high concentration of tree mortality. The northeast portion will continue to burn towards the Inyo National Forest.

Current situation information from Madera County:

Fire activity remains active and intense in heavy fuels above the smoke layer. Under the inversion, fire activity was low to moderate in all fuel types. Smoke will continue to be a concern as it continues to linger in the valleys. Mid-slopes and ridges will have less smoke which is expected to lead to more active fire behavior. The prediction is for much clearer skies by Thursday. Winds will primarily be slope driven, the exception will remain near the Sierra Crest on the northeast side of the fire where stronger west to southwest winds are likely with gusts to 30 mph there. Humidity will remain low, as low as 10% during the day. A stronger southwest wind event is likely Thursday into Friday.

Expect active to extreme fire behavior with movement towards Globe Rock, Jackass Lakes, Strawberry Mine, and Cattle Mountain. Fire spread in the Central Camp, Browns Creek and Whisky Falls will be active and spotting may move fire to the west. A number of evacuation warnings were lifted in the northwestern area of the fire. This area includes two large communities: Coarsegold and Oakhurst. This resulted in the large reduction in evacuated residents.

Bullfrog Fire Information

The Bullfrog Fire is burning on the Sierra National Forest but is not related to the Creek Fire. An Inciweb page has been established for the fire. To view information open the following link: Sierra National Forest Bullfrog Fire.
