Imagine red, green, yellow, orange, purple and even white, those luscious tomatoes that we long for over the winter.
It is not too early to start considering that summer crop. Mariposa County Master Gardeners Dan Horner and Helen Willoughby-Peck will present a workshop on everything you need to know to grow tomatoes successfully.
The free workshop will be Saturday, March 21, 2015 from 10 a.m. to noon at Hacienda Don Pedro, 5182 Fuentes des Flores Road, La Grange. Register online at: cemariposa.ucanr.edu or telephone (209) 966-2417.
Subjects covered include seed selection and how to read those seed catalog symbols, seed starting techniques, preparing the garden for seedlings, pests, diseases, environmental concerns, prolonging the harvest period, seed preservation and, if we have time, grafting tomato plants onto stronger root stock to resist diseases and improve quality.
The presenters will be ready to answer questions and give advice about your tomato growing problems.
